One person in extremely critical condition following an apparent sudden cardiac arrest event near Kailua Pier in Kailua Village Friday afternoon (April 30th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) and Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) responded to a report of a medical emergency at Kailua Pier in Kailua Village Friday afternoon (April 30th).
The initial call came in at 1:16 pm Friday afternoon and HFD Crews from the Kailua Fire Station along with HPD Officers from the Kona Patrol and DLNR - DOCARE Officers responded to the scene located at a restroom facility near the Kailua Pier in Kailua Village.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, a 911 call came in for a report of a person (described as a male in his 60s) who had collapsed in the men's restroom near Kailua Pier and reported to be unconscious. Bystanders provided basic medical care until emergency crews arrived at the scene.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD Medic personnel conducted a medical assessment of the male patient determined he had suffered an apparent sudden cardiac arrest event and immediately began life-saving measures. Crews then transported the male patient to the Kona Community Hospital in extremely critical condition, where at this time his condition remains unknown.
HPD and DLNR continue to investigate the incident.
