Kailua Village Information Update for October 13th, 2019
An emotionally distraught man atop the roof of a local business in Kailua Village Sunday evening (October 13th) leads to the temporary closure of Ali'i Drive.

The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) along with the Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) are currently on scene of an emotionally distraught man atop the roof of a local business in Kailua Village Sunday evening (October 13th).
The initial call came in just after 5:00 pm on Sunday evening and HPD officers from the Kona Patrol, Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) and HFD crews from the Kailua Fire Station are on scene located at the 75-5700 block of Ali'i Drive in Kailua Village in North Kona.
Upon the arrival of HPD and HFD crews, reports received that an unknown age male was standing atop the roof of a local business on Ali'i Drive. The male appeared to be emotionally distraught and also refusing to come down from the rooftop when asked by hotel employees.
HPD officers and specialists are currently on scene and working to safely resolve the situation with the male party involved.
As a result of the incident, HPD has temporarily closed Ali'i Drive between Sarona Road and Hualalai Road as a precaution until the situation has been resolved.
They are also asking the public to avoid the area until further notice.
