The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a home accident (near-drowning) at an apartment complex in Kaloko, North Kona Monday evening (September 28th).

The initial call came in 5:47 pm Monday evening and HFD crews from the Makalei and Kailua Fire Stations along with HPD officers from the Kona Patrol responded to the scene located at an apartment complex at the 73-4100 Block of Ulu Wini Place in Kaloko.

Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came that an infant had nearly drowned in a bathtub of water at an apartment unit and family members had pulled the infant out of the water and immediately began life-saving measures. The infant later regained consciousness and family members continued basic medical aid until emergency crews arrived at the scene.

Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD crews took over medical aid of the infant and later infant to the Kona Community Hospital in serious condition for further medical treatment.

HPD continues to investigate the incident.
