Kamuela Information Update for October 19th, 2019
Small Brush Fire in Waimea (Kamuela) keeps crews busy early Saturday morning (October 19th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) is currently on scene of a small brush fire located within Waimea Nature Park in Kamuela, South Kohala that started earlier Saturday morning (October 19th).
The initial call came in just after 12:00 am (midnight) Saturday morning and crews from the Waimea, South Kohala, Waikoloa, and Honoka'a Fire Stations along with Battalion 2 and volunteers from the Anekona station are responding or on scene at Waimea Nature Park in Kamuela.
Preliminary details received that the brush fire is located within a heavily forested area within Waimea Nature Park and is only accessible by 4x4 vehicles only. Winds in the area are currently blowing at 10-15 mph with gust at 23 mph. The brush fire was reported to be less than 2 acres in size. A smell of smoke has been reported throughout Kamuela with heavy smoke visible in nearby neighborhoods in close proximity to the Nature Park.
No evacuations have been ordered nor road closures to report at this time.
