Kamuela Traffic Alert for April 2021

Work to begin on the pavement and safety improvement project on Monday, April 19th, 2021 in Kamuela.

Hawai'i Department of Transportation (HDOT) - Highways Division crews have begun preparation work on Highway 190 (Mamalahoa Highway) in Kamuela, South Kohala for pavement and safety improvements projects will begin on Monday, April 19th, 2021.


Work hours are as follows:


Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm


On Thursday, April 15th, Contractor Jas W. Glover Limited (Ltd.) has also begun to stage paving equipment just south of the 3-mile marker on Highway 190 in preparation for the start of road work.


The project is expected to take 1 to 2 months to complete (including the striping/installation of safety improvements planned).


Road work will be happening between the following milepost and include the following intersections:


  • Mile Marker 3 to 7

  • Intersections of Old Saddle Road and West Hawaii Concrete Quarry Road


Road Work will include the following:


PAVING, INSTALLING MILLED RUMBLE STRIPS IN THE CENTERLINE AND SHOULDER AND UPGRADING GUARDRAIL, PAVEMENT SIGNING, AND MARKINGS.


Motorists who use Highway 190 between Kailua-Kona, Waikoloa Village, and Waimea are asked to anticipate delays or use alternate routes to avoid delays.


All road work will be weather permitting.
