One person in serious condition following a tractor-trailer collision in Kaupulehu Thursday morning (July 2nd).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a single-vehicle collision in the area of Kaupulehu Drive and Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Highway 19) Thursday morning (July 2nd).
The initial call came in at 8:11 am Thursday morning and HFD crews from the South Kohala Fire Station and HPD officers from the Kona Patrol and Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) responded to scene located in the area of Four Seasons Hualalai Resort in North Kona.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in from security staff at Four Seasons Resort reported a single-vehicle (being described as semi-tractor trailer) had run off Queen Kaahumanu Highway into a lava field. The operator (described as a male approximately in his 50's) of the semi was reported to be unconscious and security staff immediately began life-saving measures until emergency crews at the scene. It was noted the operator may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the collision.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD Medics immediately took over life-saving measures and immediately transported the male to the North Hawaii Community Hospital in serious condition.
Shortly after the operator was transported, HPD TEU Officers arrived at the scene immediately began an investigation into the collision.
