The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to report of an industrial accident in Kaupulehu, North Kona late Monday morning (May 4th).
The initial call came in at 11:39 am Monday morning and HFD crews from the South Kohala Fire Station along with HPD officers from the Kona Patrol responded to the scene located within the Kaupulehu-Kona Village Resort area in North Kona.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in that male party (described to be approximately in his 50's) was run over by heavy construction tractor (being described as an excavator) and reported to have suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident and bystanders were rendering aid until emergency crews arrived at the scene.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD crews immediately began life-saving measures on the victim at the scene. However, shortly after arriving at the scene, HFD Medics ceased all life-saving measures and declared the victim DOA (Dead On Arrival) at the scene.
Once that determination was made, HFD personnel turned the scene over to HPD officers, where they began their investigation into the incident.
