One person seriously injured following a single-vehicle collision on Mamalahoa Highway in Keauhou Mauka, North Kona Tuesday morning (March 30th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Mamalahoa Highway in Keauhou Mauka, North Kona Tuesday morning (March 30th).
The initial call came in at 6:48 am Tuesday morning and HFD Crews from the Keauhou Fire Station along with HPD Officers from the Kona Patrol responded to the scene located at the 78-6800 block of Mamalahoa Highway in Keauhou Mauka.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in from nearby residents who reported hearing a loud crash in the area of the Keauhou Mauka Head Start School and bystanders went to investigate and later found a motorcyclist (described as a male in his 30s) had collided with a fire hydrant and was ejected from the motorcycle and found on atop a rock wall near the scene. It was noted the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD Medics immediately began providing medical care for the male patient and later transported the patient to the Kona Community Hospital in serious condition for further medical treatment.
HPD continues to investigate the incident.
