The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with Ocean Safety Lifeguards and the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a call for a report of a lone kayak floating offshore of Lapakahi State Historical Park at 2:31 pm Friday afternoon.
HFD crews from the North Kohala Fire Station along with Ocean Safety Lifeguards West Hawaii Jet Ski Team, Chopper 1, Chopper 2, and HPD Officers from the North Kohala Patrol responded to the incident.
Upon further investigation, found lone kayak floating unanchored 200 yards offshore of Lapakahi Park with no persons aboard or around the kayak at the time and Jet Ski Team towed the vessel back to shore to awaiting HFD and HPD personnel at Mahukona Beach Park.
Both HFD Chopper 1 and Chopper 2 conducted a brief aerial search of the surrounding area and came up with negative findings.
