Kona Information Update for May 5th, 2019

Child Transported in Critical Condition following at heat-related incident

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department responded to a report patient with heatstroke at local business in Kailua-Kona Sunday Afternoon (May 5th).


Initial call came in at 3:53 pm and crews from the Kailua Fire Station responded to the scene located at the 75-5800 block of Ali'i Drive. Upon the arrival of HFD personnel, staff from the business found the patient (describe to be young toddler) in a vehicle, was reported to be in the vehicle for undisclosed amount of time, in the parking lot behind the business. Staff immediately pulled the patient from the vehicle and immediately administered life-saving measures until HFD personnel arrived on scene.


Once on scene, crews immediately continued all life-saving measures and transported the patient by HFD Medic to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition for further treatment, where patient's condition remains unknown at this time.


HPD is current investigating the incident.
