Kona Information Update for September 27th, 2019

The threat of violence forces a Kailua-Kona school to cancel all school activities and evacuate campus Friday evening (September 27th).

The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) along with Department of Education (DOE) staff at Kealakehe High School is currently on scene and investigating a report of a threat of violence at the Kealakehe High School campus received Friday evening (September 27th).


Due to the threat, Kealakehe High School staff has canceled all school activities including practices and a dance event taking place on campus at the time the threat was received. School staff and HPD officers from the Kona Patrol have put the campus on lockdown and are working to clear/evacuate the campus as a precaution. Students/staff on campus have notified parents to pick up them up at a designated safety zone secured by HPD officers and School Staff.


In contrary to many social media and other reports of an active shooter, this incident was not an active shooter incident, again NO active shooter incident. Officials are investigating this incident as a threat received and not an active situation.


HPD and DOE staff are currently conducting investigating into the incident.
