Kua Bay (Maniniowali) Lifeguards Funding Approved
As of April 25th, 2019: HB558 HD 1 SD 1 has been approved for Fiscal Year 2019 - 2020, which go into effect on July 1st, 2019.
In the State Funding Agreement, $480,000 will go to fund the personnel and the following equipment:
Lifeguard Tower
All Terrain Vehicle
Radios
Protective Equipment
With the approval of the Kua Bay lifeguards, this will be the second state beach park on Hawaii Island to receive state funding for lifeguards. The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) Ocean Safety division will provide the staffing and equipment for the beach.
While the funding will go into effect on July 1st, 2019, a lot of steps and preparations need to completed prior to the lifeguards stepping onto the beach. Anticipate lifeguards going on duty at Kua Bay sometime in fall or late 2019.
