Laupahoehoe Information Update for November 16th, 2019
Critical Motorcycle Accident leads to the temporary closure of Highway 19 near the 26-mile marker in Laupahoehoe, Hamakua Saturday afternoon.

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) are on scene of a critical motorcycle accident that occurred in Laupahoehoe, Hamakua Saturday afternoon (November 16th).
The initial call came in at 3:41 pm Saturday afternoon and crews from the Laupahoehoe and Honoka'a Fire Stations along with HPD Officers from the North Hilo and Hamakua Patrol responded to the scene near the 26-mile marker on Highway 19 in Laupahoehoe, just Hilo side of Laupahoehoe Gulch (or second horseshoe turn).
At this time, Highway 19 is closed to all traffic near the 26-mile marker on Highway 19. No Detours are available and all motorists are being asked to use Daniel K. Inouye Highway (or Saddle Road) for cross-island travel. Highway 19 is expected to be closed for the next 4-5 hours while Officers from HPD's Traffic Enforcement conduct their investigation into the collision.
