Local Earthquake Information Statement for June 17th, 2021
No Tsunami Threat to the Island of Hawaii following a magnitude 4.5 earthquake in the region of Kaʻalaʻala Ahupua'a, Ka'ū on Hawaii Island late Thursday afternoon (June 17th).

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports a magnitude 4.5 (initially a 4.1 later upgraded to a 4.5) earthquake occurred in the region of Kaʻalaʻala Ahupua'a, Ka'ū (or 8 kilometers East-Northeast of Pāhala, Ka'ū) at a depth of 32.8 kilometers at 4:32 pm late Thursday afternoon (June 17th) Hawaii Standard Time (HST).
Based on all assessments completed by the Central Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (CPTWC) and National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC), THERE IS NO TSUNAMI THREAT TO THE ISLAND OR STATE OF HAWAI'I, AGAIN NO TSUNAMI THREAT.
No injuries or damages have been reported to the Hawaii Fire Department (HFD), Hawaii Police Department (HPD), and Hawaii County Civil Defense (HCCD) related to this earthquake event.
This will be the only statement for this event unless further data is received.
