Maunakea Information Update for April 18th, 2021
One person seriously injured following a dirt bike accident on Mana Road in Hu'umula, North Hilo Sunday afternoon (April 18th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with U.S. Army Garrison Fire Department at Pōhakuloa Training Area (PTA Fire), and the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a dirt bike accident on Mana Road near Maunakea Access Road in Hu'umula, North Hilo Sunday afternoon (April 18th).
The initial call came in at 12:40 pm Sunday afternoon and HFD Crews from the Central, Haihai, and Kaumana Fire Station along with Chopper 2, PTA Fire, and HPD Officers from the South Hilo Patrol responded to the scene located near the intersection of Mana Road and Maunakea Access Road in Hu'umula, North Hilo.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, a report came in that a dirt bike rider (described as a female in her 20s) had fallen from the bike on Mana Road and suffered injuries following the incident. The female was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident and the injuries the party suffered were described as head and facial. It was noted she had suffered a loss of consciousness for a brief moment following the accident.
The female patient was being transported by private vehicle to Maunakea Access Road to rendezvous with emergency crews for further medical treatment.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, PTA Fire and HFD Chopper 2 had rendezvous with the party on Maunakea Access Road and Mana Road, where they immediately took medical treatment and packaged the patient for transport to the hospital via Chopper 2.
Chopper 2 then medevac the female patient to the Hilo Medical Center in serious condition for further medical treatment.
HPD continues to investigate the incident.
