North Hawaii Flood Advisory for February 9th, 2021

A Flood Advisory has been issued for the North Hawaii districts of North Kohala, South Kohala, and Hāmākua through Tuesday morning (February 9th).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
  The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* Until 1030 AM HST.

* At 723 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rain repeatedly forming over
  the Hamakua Coast, mainly along the lower slopes. Rain was falling
  at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
  Kapaau, Honokaa, Paauilo, Kukuihaele, Ookala, Waipio Valley,
  Kamuela, Laupahoehoe, Waimanu Valley, Ninole, Pololu Valley,
  Hakalau, Honomu, Kohala Ranch, Pepeekeo, Halaula, Papaikou, Paukaa
  and Wainaku.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don`t drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 1030 AM HST if flooding
persists.
