A Flood Advisory has been issued for the North Kohala and parts of the Hamakua districts of Hawaii Island through Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flood Advisory for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until noon HST. * At 853 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the north Kohala district. Rain was falling at a rate of up to 2 inches per hour. The heaviest rain was occurring along the coast near Upolu and the slopes of north Kohala. Additional heavy showers are possible over the next few hours. * Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Kapaau, Pololu Valley, Halaula, Kohala Ranch, Waimanu Valley, Hawi, Waipio Valley, Kamuela, Kukuihaele and Mahukona. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for the Big Island.
The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) reports no road or lane closures at this time and could happen without notice. Hawaii County Civil Defense has not received any reports of flooding or flood damage at this time.
HECO, Hawaiian Telcom, and Spectrum report no outages as well at this time.
