Pōhakuloa Training and Convoy Advisory for August 2019
Military Convoy & Training Advisory August 2019
PŌHAKULOA TRAINING AREA (PTA), Hawai‘i—there are no additional convoys planned for the month of August, however, PTA Public Affairs will notify the community if additional convoy requests are received for this month.
We have three separate units training at PTA this month: US Marines based at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, US Army Combat Aviation Brigade from Wheeler Army Airfield in Wahiawa, and Hawaii Island Police Department (HPD). The Marines will be flying Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) 6-17 August from Cooper airstrip on the Eastern portion of PTA. The Army aviation units will be conducting aerial gunnery 19-23 August, and HPD will be training their Special Response Team (SRT) and K9 teams 6, 13, 23 and 30 August. Finally, the Youth Challenge Academy cadets of Class 18 complete Phase I tomorrow (6 August) here. In cooperation with Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy, PTA hosts Phase I portion which consists of the first two weeks in the program. Well done cadets!
PTA Public Affairs received several noise complaints from Hawaii Island residents recently regarding aircraft flying in the area. As a reminder, please gather as much detail as possible (cell phone photo, color of aircraft, time, type of aircraft, location and elevation) so the PTA staff can identify the units flying and actually investigate the complaints. While training is critical to our service members here, the respect of the community and their lives is paramount to maintaining a good relationship.
PTA greatly appreciates the community’s understanding, and continued support. To report concerns related to noise, training, or convoy movements, or be added to the community distribution list contact PTA Public Affairs Officer, Mike Donnelly, either by calling (808) 969-2411, or email michael.o.donnelly.civ@mail.mil.
