Training for the month of October will involve several hundred Soldiers and Marines, home-based on Oahu. Training includes small arms, helicopter gunnery, mortar gunnery, and aviation training including the use of unmanned aerial systems.
Residents of Hawaii Island can expect to see or hear military aircraft supporting this
training including Marine helicopters, and tilt-rotor aircraft (MV-22) commonly known as
Osprey. When training increases, PTA Public Affairs will send out a community notice as
a courtesy.
There are “tentative” convoys scheduled for October, and PTA Public Affairs will alert
the community once firm dates and times are known to assist in planning local travel.
As a reminder, the scoping period for the PTA Environmental Impact Statement
concludes on Oct. 14, and comments on the scope (what should be studied) of the EIS
should be submitted to http://atlrptaeis.commentinput.com.
On behalf of Lieutenant Colonel JR Borce, Commander of Pohakuloa Training Area,
and Command Sergeant Major Will Gray, along with the entire PTA staff, thank you
again, for your continued support, patience, and understanding.
