Training for the month of September will continue here and involve several hundred Soldiers and Marines based on Oahu. Training includes helicopter gunnery, artillery and mortar gunnery, and aviation training.
Residents of Hawaii Island can expect to see or hear military aircraft supporting this
training including Army helicopters, and Marine tilt-rotor aircraft (MV-22) commonly
known as Osprey.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure compliance with the State of Hawaii Quarantine or Restriction of Movement (ROM) requirements, PTA has placed restrictions for all Soldiers and Marines from leaving the installation until completion of mission and redeployment back to Oahu Island. Keeping the community safe and minimizing risk to health and safety remains our top priority.
The following convoys are planned from Kawaihae to PTA. Please note that dates and
times are subject to change, however, the information is provided for your personal travel
in the area of Waikoloa and along Queen Kaahumanu Highway. PTA Public Affairs will
notify the public should any convoys changes occur.
• 6 September PTA to Kawaihae 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• 13 September PTA to Kawaihae 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
On behalf of Lieutenant Colonel JR Borce, Commander of Pohakuloa Training Area,
and Command Sergeant Major Gray, along with the entire PTA staff, thank you, for your
continued support and understanding.
