Injured hiker rescued from Polulu Valley Trail near Honokane Nui Valley Sunday afternoon (May 17th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of an injured hiker on the Polulu Valley Trail near Honokane Nui Valley in North Kohala Sunday afternoon (May 17th).
The initial call came in 3:13 pm Sunday afternoon and HFD crews from the North Kohala Fire Station along with Chopper 1 (from the Waiakea Fire Station), Chopper 2 (from the South Kohala Fire Station) responded to the scene located on the Polulu Valley trail north of Honokane Nui Valley.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in from a bystander that a hiker (described a female in her 60's) on the Polulu Valley trail on the way to Honokane Nui Valley had suffered a compound fracture to her ankle and was not able to hike back out to the trailhead and needed assistance out.
Once emergency crews arrived at the trailhead of Polulu Valley, 2 HFD personnel hiked into Polulu Valley to meet with the injured on the Polulu Valley Trail. Once with the injured hiker, HFD personnel immediately began medical treatment and later they extricated her from Polulu Valley using a Billy Pugh Net from Chopper 1, where they brought her to a landing zone at the top of Polulu Valley, where Chopper 2 medevac the patient to the North Hawaii Community Hospital in serious condition.
