The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a medical emergency at an address off of Puako Beach Drive in South Kohala Saturday afternoon (December 5th).
The initial call came in at 12:12 pm Saturday afternoon and HFD Crews from the South Kohala Fire Station and HPD Officers from the South Kohala Patrol responded to the scene located at 69-1600 block of Puako Beach Drive (near Hokuloa United of Christ Church at Puako Beach) in South Kohala.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came into emergency crews reporting a tree trimmer (described as a male in his 30s) was in a tree and in the process of trimming when the branch the trimmer was standing on had given way and the male party had fallen approximately 15-feet to a rocky landing below and large diameter tree branch had also fallen on the male party on the ground. Following the incident, bystanders at the scene immediately began providing basic medical aid to the male party (who had suffered multiple traumatic injuries as a result of the incident) until emergency crews arrived at the scene.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD Medics took over medical care of the male party and later transported the male patient to the North Hawaii Community Hospital in extremely critical condition.
HPD continues to investigate the incident.
