Fire destroys an abandoned residence in Pahoa Village Monday evening (June 29th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a residential structure fire in Pahoa Village Monday evening (June 29th).
The initial call came in at 7:01 pm Monday evening and HFD crews from the Pahoa, Paradise Park, and Kea'au Fire Stations along with Battalion 1 and HPD officers from the Puna Patrol responded to the scene located at the 15-1600 block of Akeakamai Loop in Pahoa Village.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came from surrounding residents reporting structure (described as a single-story dwelling approximately 1,100 square feet) was fully engulfed in flames and parts of the structure were beginning to collapse in.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HPD and HFD crews found the structure fully engulfed in flames with the structure fully collapsed and immediately worked to extinguished the fire and prevent further spread to surrounding residences. HFD crews later determined that the residence was abandoned and no occupants were present at the time of the fire.
The fire was declared under control shortly after 7:30 pm and HFD crews immediately overhaul operations of the remnants of a structure. HFD crews later the fire fully extinguished at 8:47 pm and the scene was turned over to HFD Fire Prevention Inspectors, who began their investigation into the fire.
