Puna Information Update for December 11th, 2019

Update at 3:45 pm: the HIRSC team has confirmed a fatality is involved with this collision.


Original Update: Critical two-vehicle collision in Mountain View leads to the temporary closure of Highway 11 Wednesday afternoon (December 11th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) and the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) are on scene of a critical two-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 11 near the 13-mile marker in Mountain View, Puna Wednesday afternoon (December 11th).


The initial call came in at 2:58 pm and HFD crews from the Kea'au Fire Station along with HPD officers from the Puna Patrol responded to the scene located on Highway 11 just east of the 13-mile marker in Mountain View, Puna.


Initial reports came in that two-vehicles (one being described as a sedan and other as a pickup) had collided on Highway 11 near the 13-mile marker and reported to both have flipped over with multiple parties injured, one patient was reported to be critically injured.


At this time, Highway 11 near the 13-mile marker in Mountain View is closed to all traffic at this time and motorists are being asked to use the alternate route of North Kulani Road and Stainback Highway.


This is an ongoing incident, we will provide an update as more information becomes available.
