Fire damages home in the Ohia Estates Thursday evening (December 19th).
The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to reports of a residential structure fire in the Ohia Estates just outside of Volcano Thursday evening (December 19th).
The initial call came in at 6:22 pm Thursday evening and HFD crews from the Volcano, Pahala, Kea'au, Pahoa, and Central Fire Stations along with Battalion 1, volunteers from the Volcano Village station, and HPD officers from the Puna Patrol responded to the scene located at the 11-3900 block of Liona Street in the Ohia Estates outside of Volcano Village in Puna.

Upon the arrival of emergency crews, occupants of the residence (residence is described as a two-story single-family dwelling) reported the fire started in the kitchen and then began spreading into the residence. All occupants of the structure were able to safely evacuate and were awaiting the arrival of emergency crews.
When HFD crews arrived on scene, they found smoke and flames coming from a back room of the residence and immediately went into an offensive mode of attack to gain control of the fire.
No report of injuries and the American Red Cross (ARC) was responding to provide assistance to the occupants displaced as a result of the fire.
