One person is dead following single vehicle accident Saturday morning (June 15th)
The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to report of a single vehicle accident in the area of Government Beach Road near Papaya Farms Road early Saturday morning (June 15th).
The initial call came at 5:47 am Saturday morning and crews from the Pahoa Fire Station along with Chopper 2 was dispatched to the scene on Government Beach Road. Upon the arrival of HFD crews, passer-by discovered a vehicle (described as a sedan) overturned on Government Beach Road and with one occupant still in the vehicle with a dog accompanying the occupant.
Once HFD crews arrived on scene, crews immediately began work to extricate the occupant from the vehicle and once extricated, HFD Medics began life-saving measures on the victim (describe to be a female in her 60's) who reported to be to unresponsive. It was later determined the victim had sustained traumatic injuries and was declared dead on arrival (DOA) at the scene.
HFD crews immediately turned the scene to HPD officers who immediately shut down Government Beach Road at Papaya Farms Road for approximately 3 hours Saturday morning while Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) officers began their investigation into cause and circumstances into the collision.
Hawaii Island Humane Society picked up the dog at the scene and transported to the dog to their Kea'au Shelter.
