Fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Accident closes Highway 130 and Kamaili (Opihakao) Road

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Accident on Highway 130 near Kamaili Road in Lower Puna early Wednesday morning (May 29th).

The initial call came in at 6:16 am Wednesday morning and crews from the Pahoa Fire Station along with Chopper 2 responded to the scene located on Highway 130 near Kamaili Road (or Opihakao Road). Upon the arrival of HFD crews, HPD who arrived on scene began life-saving measures on the victim (pedestrian), who was found unresponsive.

Once on scene, HFD immediately took over life-saving measures and later declared the patient dead on arrival (DOA). HPD immediately soon after closed Highway 130 and Kamaili Road (Opihakao Road) to begin their investigation into the cause of the crash.

HPD advised the road will be closed for undetermined amount of time and also reports their is no alternate routes. We will update you as more information becomes available.
