The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a residential structure in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision in Mountain View, Puna late Sunday evening (May 3rd).

The initial call came in at 11:08 pm Sunday evening and HFD crews from the Kea'au, Volcano, Haihai, Central, and Pahoa Fire Stations along with Battalion 1 and HPD officers from the Puna Patrol responded to the scene located at the 16-1600 block of Uhini Ana (Road 1) in Mountain View.

Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in from neighbors nearing the residence report of smoke and flames coming from a residence (described as a single-story family dwelling) located on Road 1. They were not able to confirm if the occupants of the residence were present at the time of the fire.

Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found the residence fully engulfed in flames with parts of the roof collapsed as a result of the fire. HFD crews immediately worked to extinguished the fire. One of the challenges that fire crews faced while working to extinguish the fire is limited water supply at the scene and HFD crews utilized fire engines and also 2 water tankers (one from the Pahoa Fire Station and another from the Central Fire Station) to haul water from a water supply source located outside of the subdivision to the scene.

HFD crews were able to have the fire under control and out just at 11:51 pm Sunday evening, however, at last check, HFD crews were still on scene completing overhaul operations to the remnants of the residence.

No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
