Puna Information Update for September 3rd, 2019
Vacant structure destroyed in fire late Monday night (September 2nd).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a structure fire in the Eden Roc subdivision late Monday night.
The initial call came in at 11:18 pm Monday night and crews from the Kea'au, Volcano, and Pahoa Fire Stations along with Battalion 1 and volunteers from the Fern Forest station responded to the scene located at 11-1700 block of Naia Street near Palainui Street in the Eden Roc subdivision in Puna.
Upon the arrival, nearby residences reported hearing popping noises with smoke visible from around the subdivision. Neighbors near the scene reported the structure was engulfed in flames and was abandoned/vacant. It was also noted the structure known to have been occupied by squatters.
Once HFD crews arrived on scene, they immediately discover the an approximate 40'x30' single story structure and roof had collapsed in with fire still showing and crews immediately went into a defensive mode and worked to extinguish hot spots and overhaul what was left of the structure.
HFD crews were able to have the fire under control at 11:43 pm and have the fire fully extinguished around 12:37 am Tuesday morning (September 3rd). No injuries were reported and structure was declared a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
