South Kohala Information Update for July 23rd, 2019

A small brush fire temporarily closes Highway 190 (Mamalahoa Highway) north of Waikoloa Road junction in South Kohala.

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) are currently on scene of a small brush fire that burned on makai (ocean side) shoulder of Highway 190 (locally known as Mamalahoa Highway or Top Road) Tuesday afternoon (July 23rd).

The initial call came in just after 2:15 pm and multiple HFD units responded to the scene located near the 10-mile marker on Highway 190 and HFD reports the fire is contained and crews are still in the area monitoring and extinguishing hotspots.

HPD reports Highway 190 between Waikoloa Road junction (11-mile marker) and Old Saddle Road were closed temporarily while HFD worked in the area. At last check, Highway 190 is has since been reopened to all traffic.
