A 63-year-old man who died Sunday, Oct. 10. 2021, following a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of Daniel K. Inouye Highway and Highway 190 in Waikoloa has been identified as Oren Mark Wilson, of Waikoloa.

Responding to a 10:25 a.m. call, police determined that Wilson was operating an orange 2014 Honda CB1100 motorcycle heading west (makai) on Daniel K. Inouye Highway when he ran off the roadway after striking a stop sign. Then struck a guardrail and was ejected. Wilson was transported to Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m.

Wilson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Police believe that speed was a possible factor in the fatal incident.

The Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
