Partial Road Closure due to a Critical Motorcycle vs. Vehicle Accident on Waikoloa Road Thursday evening (May 16th)
The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to and are on scene of a critical motorcycle vs. motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Uluwehi Street and Waikoloa Road fronting the entrance to Wehilani at Waikoloa Village Thursday evening (May 16th).
The initial call came in just after 5:30 pm Thursday evening and crews from the Waikoloa Fire Station responded to the scene and upon the arrival of HFD crews, witnesses report a motorcyclist collided with motor vehicle at the intersection and motorcyclist (described as male patient) suffering from extremely critical injuries. Once crews arrived on scene, HFD immediately began life-saving measures and transported the male patient in extremely critical condition to the North Hawaii Community Hospital, where the patient condition remains unknown at this time.
HPD has closed westbound lane of traffic of Waikoloa Road between Pu'u Melia Street and Makana Kai Apartments and the intersection of Uluwehi Street while officers begin their investigation into the cause and circumstances of the critical accident. Officers were contra-flowing traffic using the eastbound lanes at the time, but may close all lanes for the investigation. (Please monitor Nixle/CD Messages for updates)
Moments after the incident at Waikoloa Road and Uluwehi Street intersection, another single vehicle (roll-over) accident off the side of the road occurred further down the road at the 1-mile marker on Waikoloa Road also snarling traffic. It's unknown at this time what condition of that patient, however sources say that patient had self extricated prior to emergency crews arrived on scene and appeared to suffered only minor injuries.
