Waimea Traffic Advisory for June 23rd, 2019
HAWK Signal Light Replacement in Waimea Slated for Sunday, June 23

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works Traffic Division will be replacing the HAWK pedestrian traffic signal at the pedestrian cross walk on Kawaihae Rd. fronting Longs Drugs store and HPA Village Campus.
In response to community feedback about the HAWK traffic signal being confusing to drivers and pedestrians, the HAWK signal will be replaced with new traffic signal heads and will operate the same as the pedestrian signal located nearby on Kawaihae Rd.
Work replacing the traffic signal light is scheduled to take place Sunday, June 23, 2019, starting at 8:00 a.m. til work is complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.
During the scheduled repair work motorists are advised to drive with caution. Signs will be posted on the road for vehicles and one lane will be closed while the pedestrian signal is replaced. A special duty officer will be at the location directing traffic. The crosswalk will be closed while work is performed.
Motorists are advised to follow new crosswalk operations, which will operate like a traffic signal intersection with the red, yellow, green lights operations alerting motorists to pedestrians using the crosswalk.
The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.
If there are any questions or concerns about the traffic signal repair work, please call the Traffic Division at 961-8341.
