West Hawaii Beach Closure Update for August 1st, 2019
La'aloa (Magic Sands) Beach Park is closed for 2 hours following a shark sighting offshore of La'aloa Beach.

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) Ocean Safety Lifeguards along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) reports La'aloa (Magic Sands) Beach Park will be closed for the next 2 hours (until 10:30 am) due to a shark sighting.
The initial call came in at 8:27 am and Lifeguards at La'aloa Beach along with HPD Kona patrol officers were on scene at La'aloa Beach Park investigating the reported sighting of an approximate 10-12 foot shark (unknown species) offshore of La'aloa Beach.
Lifeguards as a precaution have temporarily closed La'aloa Beach Park for the next 2 hours and will reassess the waters around 10:30 am to see if the beach can be reopened. Shark Sighting Signs have been posted as well.
