West Hawaii Flood Advisory for March 13th, 2021

A Flood Advisory for all West Hawaii districts (from North Kohala to parts of Ka'ū) on Hawaii Island has been issued through Saturday morning (March 13th).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
  The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* Until 745 AM HST.

* At 443 AM HST, radar indicated heavy showers coming ashore along
  the Kona coast from Waikoloa to South Point. Rain was falling at a
  rate of up to 2 inches per hour. In addition, a line of very heavy
  rain will approach the North Kona and Kohala districts within the
  next couple of hours, adding to the flood threat.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
  Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Waikoloa Village, Kapaau, Honalo,
  Kainaliu, Kealakekua, Honaunau, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Puuanahulu,
  Kalaoa, Kamuela, Kawaihae, Kohala Ranch, Hawaiian Ocean View and
  Waipio Valley.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don`t drown.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for Hawaii County until 6 PM
HST.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 745 AM HST if flooding
persists.
