West Hawaii Flood Advisory for March 14th, 2020

Notice Level: Urgent (Information Statement Needed - Action Needed)


A Flood Advisory has been issued for the districts of North and South Kona and South Kohala until 12:00 pm Saturday afternoon (March 14th). Moderate to heavy showers have been reported in the Kailua-Kona, Kealakehe, Holualoa, Palani Junction, and Kaloko area. (See Post for Further Details)

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flood advisory for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until noon HST. * At 958 AM HST, radar indicated a line of heavy showers and thunderstorms moving onto leeward Big Island, producing rain rates up to 3 inches per hour. The heaviest rainfall is occurring in and around Kailua-Kona. * Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Captain Cook, Puuanahulu, Honaunau, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Waikoloa Village, Kainaliu, Kealakekua, Honalo, Kalaoa, Holualoa and Mauna Lani. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility, and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. && This advisory may need to be extended beyond noon HST if heavy rain persists.
