West Hawaii Flood Advisory for October 23rd, 2019

Notice Level: URGENT

Flood Advisory for South Kohala, North & South Kona is now in effect until 10:00 pm Wednesday evening (October 23rd).


Moderate with some heavy pockets of rain have been reported in Waikoloa Village, Kailua-Kona and Holualoa area and falling at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour.


Reports of Heavy Ponding/Runoff on Ali'i Drive between Likana Lane to Hualalai Road. Poor Driving conditions are also reported on Palani Road between Kealaka'a Street and Henry Street.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flood advisory for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 1000 PM HST. * At 653 PM HST, radar indicated heavy showers developing over the the leeward side of the Big Island extending north from Keauhou to Waikoloa Village. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Minor flooding of poor drainage areas can be expected. * Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Kailua-Kona, Honalo, Puuanahulu, Kalaoa, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Kainaliu, Waikoloa Village, Holualoa and Kona International Airport. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. && This advisory may need to be extended beyond 1000 PM HST if heavy rain persists.
