High Surf Warning for West Hawaii shores remains in effect until 6:00 pm Thursday evening (January 23rd). Surf of 4 to 8 feet is expected through today and building to 8 to 12 feet tomorrow morning and diminishing late Thursday evening into Friday.
No beach or road closures to report as of 10:00 am Wednesday morning.
HIGH SURF WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THURSDAY * WHAT...Surf building to 4 to 8 feet this afternoon, increasing to 8 to 12 feet tonight and Thursday. * WHERE...West facing shores of the Big Island. * WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Thursday. * IMPACTS...High. Expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may occasionally impact harbors making navigating the harbor channel dangerous. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There will likely be long lulls between the sets of larger waves as the swell builds later today. Don`t be caught off guard when larger waves arrive suddenly. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Large, breaking surf, significant shorebreak, and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous.
