West Hawaii Traffic Advisory for December 14th, 2019

Waikoloa, Kailua-Kona, and Kainaliu towns will be hosting Christmas Holiday events that will impact traffic on Saturday, December 14th, 2019.

The first event will start at 10:00 am Saturday morning (December 14th) in Waikoloa Village.


The 15th annual Waikoloa Village Parade and Keiki Festival will be happening and the parade will start at the top of Paniolo Avenue near Waikoloa Road and end at Ho'oko Street fronting Waikoloa Elementary and Intermediate School. During the parade, no vehicle will be allowed on Paniolo Avenue between Waikoloa Road and Ho'oko Street. Following the parade, the annual Keiki Festival will happen at Waikoloa Elementary and Intermediate School Campus and will go on until 2:00 pm.

The second event will start at 5:00 pm on Saturday evening in Kailua-Kona/Kailua Village.


The 35th annual Kailua-Kona Community Christmas Parade will happen Saturday evening and will run through the heart of Kailua Village. Road closures are expected to begin at 4:45 pm and parade will start promptly at 5:00 pm from the Kekuaokalani Gym on Kuakini Highway run on along Kuakini Highway then down Palani Road and Ali'i Drive and ending at Walua Road intersection (front Royal Kona Resort). During the parade, the following road closures will be in effect:

  • Kuakini Highway between Loloku Street to Palani Road

  • Palani Road from Kuakini Highway to Kaahumanu Place (where Palani Road merges with Ali'i Drive)

  • Ali'i Drive from Kaahumanu Place to Walua Road

  • Kahikina Lane, Likana Lane, Kakina Lane, Sarona Road intersections, and all driveway entrances on Ali'i Drive will be blocked during the parade.

The Christmas Parade events are expected to conclude at 7:30 pm Saturday evening and vehicle and pedestrian traffic following the parade is expected to heavy and anticipate delays. So plan your route and commute accordingly.

The third event will happen from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm Saturday evening in Kainaliu town.


The 3rd annual music, lights, and family fun stroll in historic Kainaliu town. Take a walk down Kainaliu main street and come enjoy the holiday season island style. Shops, galleries, restaurants, and vendors will be sparkling with lights and open late for all to enjoy. From Sandy’s drive-in to the Aloha theatre there will be holiday cheer and aloha. There will be entertainment for the whole family including a visit with Santa, live music, carolers, close up magic, face painting, and more. Come with family and friends and enjoy the wonderful town of Kainaliu.


Motorists traveling through Kainaliu town should use caution, obey the posted speed limit, and anticipate above normal pedestrian traffic in the area. No roads will be closed during the event and should expect delays while traveling through Kainaliu.
