West Hawaii Weather Update for August 27th, 2019

Notice Level: (Urgent) Flood Advisory has been issued for North and South Kona districts of Hawaii Island until 7:30 pm Tuesday evening.

Moderate to heavy rains have been reported in Pu'uanahulu, Keauhou, and Kealakekua area. Minor to moderate ponding have been reported on roadways around West Hawaii, however no roads are closed at this time.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flood advisory for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 730 PM HST. * At 431 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the leeward slopes of the Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of up to 2 inches per hour. * Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Kailua-Kona, Kealakekua, Honalo, Captain Cook, Puuanahulu, Kalaoa, Honaunau, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Kainaliu, Holualoa, Waikoloa Village and Pohakuloa Training Area. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. && This advisory may need to be extended beyond 730 PM HST if heavy rain persists.
