West Hawaii Weather Update for August 6th, 2019

Notice Level: (Urgent) Flood Advisory has been issued for West Hawaii districts of Hawaii Island until 4:15 pm Tuesday afternoon.


Moderate to heavy rains have been reported in Pu'uanahulu, Kealakekua, and Waikoloa area. Minor to moderate ponding have been reported on roadways around West Hawaii, however no roads are closed at this time.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flood advisory for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 415 PM HST. * At 110 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the south Kohala district. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Additional heavy rain will be possible over the north Kohala and north and south Kona districts through the afternoon. * Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Kailua-Kona, Waipio Valley, Hawi, Honaunau, Kamuela, Kawaihae, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Kealakekua, Kapaau, Puako, Captain Cook and Puuanahulu. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. && This advisory may need to be extended beyond 415 PM HST if heavy rain persists.
